Bongaigaon NHM Workers Demand Fair Pay and Job Security in Statewide Strike
National Health Mission (NHM) workers throughout Assam initiated a three-day “work boycott and sit-in strike” today, demanding equal pay and permanent employment benefits. In Bongaigaon district, hundreds of NHM employees gathered to protest outside the Joint Director of Health Services office, expressing strong frustration over the government’s ongoing failure to meet previous commitments.
The protesters claimed that the promises made by the former Health Minister, now serving as the Chief Minister, have proven to be empty. They emphasized that their protests will persist until the government guarantees “equal pay for equal work” and addresses all their outstanding demands.
As tensions rise, the demonstrators warned of escalated protests in the near future. They indicated that if their concerns continue to be overlooked, they will expand their agitation to a sustained, statewide effort.
