Discover Meghalaya’s New Rs 230 Crore Sohra Tourism Circuit Launch!
A significant tourism infrastructure project valued at Rs 230 crore will be initiated in Sohra, Meghalaya, with the foundation stone being laid on November 1 by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. He will be joined by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma at the ceremony marking the launch of the Integrated Development of Sohra Tourism Circuit.
The event, organized by the state tourism department in collaboration with the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), will also feature the attendance of Meghalaya’s tourism minister, Timothy Shira.
This initiative, funded through the PM-DevINE scheme, aims not only to enhance tourism infrastructure but also to create sustainable livelihood opportunities while preserving the unique cultural and natural heritage of Sohra. The project is set to improve visitor facilities, promote eco-friendly tourism practices, and generate jobs for local communities, ensuring that the benefits of tourism growth extend directly to residents.
During the foundation ceremony, officials will explore stalls showcasing local crafts and businesses, engaging with entrepreneurs, artisans, and stakeholders in the tourism sector. This interaction highlights the government’s dedication to community-driven tourism development and aims to illustrate the potential impact of the project on Meghalaya’s tourism landscape through a public program and media interactions.
Additionally, on November 2, Scindia plans to visit the Mawmluh Cave, which is internationally recognized for its geo-tourism significance. Following this, he will travel to Guwahati, Assam, where he is expected to inaugurate several DoNER projects and visit IIT Guwahati.
