Urgent Ban on Pig Transport in Papum Pare DC Amid African Swine Fever Outbreak
The Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate of Papum Pare district, Smt. Tame Yajum, has implemented a prohibitory order under Section 7 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009, due to reports of suspected African Swine Fever (ASF) cases in various areas of the district. The District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer (DAH&VO) has reported a total of 29 suspected cases in Gorubandha and Taramjuli within the Banderdewa Circle, along with 10 cases in Kimin, 3 in Doimukh, and 2 in Papu Nallah. The ASF virus is highly contagious and fatal to pigs, with no available vaccine or treatment, posing a significant economic threat to local pig farmers.
To curtail the spread of this disease, the Deputy Commissioner has prohibited the movement or transportation of pigs and pig products between states and districts. This ban applies to livestock and police check gates located at Hollongi, Gumto, Kimin, Banderdewa, and Kakoi until further notice.
Authorities, including the Superintendent of Police, Assistant Deputy Commissioners of Balijan and Kimin, the Sub-Divisional Officer of Doimukh, and the Circle Officers of Banderdewa and Gumto, have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance and enforce the prohibitory order effectively at all check points.
This prohibitory order was officially issued on October 30, 2025, underscoring the urgent response required to combat the potential outbreak of ASF in the region.
