The District Election Office of Keyi Panyor District successfully held the Draw of Lots on Wednesday, reserving 33 percent of seats for women in the Zilla Parishad and Gram Panchayats. This initiative aligns with the Arunachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj (Delimitation of Constituencies and Reservation of Seats for Women) Rules of 2002, as amended in 2019. The event took place at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Yachuli, chaired by Smt. Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, the District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner.
Key officials present included Likha Teji, the Electoral Registration Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner; Dr. Mumne Borang, the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer and Assistant Commissioner; and Tasso Yallu, the District Horticulture Officer. The draw was witnessed by administrative officials, department heads, local representatives, political party members, media personnel, and the public, ensuring a transparent and impartial process to determine reserved constituencies for women candidates in the upcoming Panchayat elections.
As per the finalized results, two of the six Zilla Parishad constituencies-01-Yazali and 02-Pithapool-are now reserved for women. Additionally, of the 192 Gram Panchayat constituencies, 64 are reserved for women, and 17 out of 46 Gram Panchayat Chairperson positions have been designated for female candidates.
Shri Likha Teji commenced the programme with a welcome address, followed by a briefing from DC Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, who outlined the objectives and procedures of the draw. The proceedings were conducted in full view of those assembled, concluding with a vote of thanks from Dr. Mumne Borang, who expressed appreciation for the cooperation of all involved in ensuring the smooth execution of the event.
Likha Teji urged all local representatives and citizens to actively participate in the upcoming Panchayat elections, emphasizing the need for a fair and transparent democratic process. In her final remarks, DC Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta congratulated the constituencies reserved for women, underlining the critical role of female leadership in grassroots governance. She affirmed that this reservation process reflects the state’s commitment to elevating women into decision-making roles and fostering an inclusive local self-government in the newly established Keyi Panyor District.
