Laitkor SC Dominates Group A in Thrilling Meghalaya Women’s State League 2025
Laitkor SC clinched the top position in Group A of the inaugural Meghalaya Women’s State League 2025, triumphing over Pay For Right Football Academy (PFR) with a score of 2-1 at SSA Stadium in Polo, Shillong. Both teams entered the match unbeaten, each having secured victories in their previous three encounters. Laitkor, the reigning champions of the 2024 SSA Women’s League, sought to assert their dominance against PFR, last season’s runners-up, and succeeded in their quest.
The match saw an early goal from Inrila-i-dor Khongthaw in the sixth minute, giving Laitkor a vital lead. Eight minutes into the second half, Iaraplang Nongrum doubled the advantage. PFR’s top scorer, Nisilia Majaw, managed to reduce the deficit in the 64th minute, but Laitkor stood resilient to secure their position at the top of the group.
In another notable match on Saturday, Attacker’s Youth Club, representing the Ri-Bhoi District Sports Association, overwhelmed Lapalang SSCC from the Riwar Mihngi Football Association with a staggering 9-0 victory. The star of the match was Pynibha Rangthaluh, who scored six goals (14’, 19’, 29’, 70’, 79’, 81’). B Pyngrope (31’) and Damika Rani (62’, 65’) contributed additional goals, allowing Attacker’s to claim fourth place while Lapalang found themselves at the bottom in fifth.
Despite the outcome, both Laitkor and PFR had already secured their spots in the quarter-finals, alongside Na Rympei FA from the Ri-Bhoi District Sports Association, who qualified as the third team from Group A.
In Group B, the largest of the three, Mawlum Tyrsad SC from Tyrsad Area SA topped the standings with 13 points, followed closely by Jakrem SC from Mawkyrwat DSA with 12 points, Bright Future SSCC from Pyndengumiong DSA with 7 points, and Mawten SC from Mawkyrwat DSA with 4 points. All four teams will advance to the knockout stage of the tournament.
Group C, featuring only two teams, saw Diengshynrum SC from the East Jaintia Hills District Football Association progress with six points. The Meghalaya Football Association is expected to announce the schedule and venue for the upcoming knockout rounds soon.
