Tragic Highway Crash Claims Lives, Including Morigaon Doctor
A devastating road accident on National Highway 27 in Silchang, Jagiroad, Assam, on the morning of October 28 resulted in the deaths of three individuals. A speeding Creta vehicle collided with a road divider, leading to its overturning.
The victims have been identified as Dr. Kantheswar Bordoloi, Ashfiq Hussain, and Manas Mahanta, all of whom died at the scene. Two additional passengers suffered serious injuries and were transported to Nagaon for medical care. At the time of the collision, the vehicle, registered as AS-01EW-6546, was carrying five people.
Dr. Bordoloi, a gynaecologist at Morigaon Civil Hospital, was recently in the news for performing an impressive 21 caesarean sections within a 10-hour span in September. Following this extraordinary feat, the district health authority issued him a show-cause notice regarding potential violations of sterilization and patient safety protocols. This intense surgical session occurred from 3:40 PM on September 5 to 1:50 AM on September 6, leading the additional district commissioner (health) to request detailed reports for each procedure. At that time, Dr. Bordoloi defended his ability to manage multiple emergencies effectively.
Authorities are now investigating the crash’s circumstances, particularly whether excessive speed played a role in the tragic incident.
