Apple is set to begin assembling the Pro models of its upcoming iPhone 16 series in India, reports Money Control. Partnering with Foxconn, the tech giant aims to diversify production beyond China and strengthen its manufacturing presence in India.
Money Control revealed that Apple has contemplated producing iPhone Pro models in India for several years. The decision has been made to manufacture the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models locally. As per the report, the first batch of these India-made models will be assembled within this fiscal year.
The Sriperumbudur facility in Tamil Nadu will initiate the “new product introduction” (NPI) process for these models. After their launch, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will commence mass production at this facility. Initially, the models will be imported into India, but domestic assembly for both local and export markets will follow soon after.
Last year, Apple introduced India-made iPhone 15 models at launch, including the iPhone 15 Plus. These models were available locally from day one. The iPhone 16 series is expected to launch globally by the second week of September and will likely be available in India by the end of the following month.
