ULFA (I) Cadre Captured: Shocking Assault on Assam’s Kakopathar Army Camp
Security forces have apprehended an active cadre of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) or ULFA (I), linked to a recent attack on an Army camp in Kakopathar, Tinsukia. The arrest took place on October 26 in the Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh, during a coordinated operation involving the Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police under the Spear Corps.
The Spear Corps of the Indian Army confirmed the arrest on X, stating, “In a joint operation with Arunachal Pradesh Police, #AssamRifles under #SpearCorps on 26 October, apprehended a ULFA (I) cadre in Namsai district, #ArunachalPradesh and recovered weapons & ammunition. The insurgent was involved in the recent attack on the Army Camp in Kakopathar, #Assam.”
The earlier attack on October 16 was marked by the use of multiple grenades and sustained heavy gunfire against the Army installation. Attackers utilized three Under Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGL) and continued firing for several minutes. Residents reported hearing explosions and gunfire echoing throughout Kakopathar that night.
Fortunately, no major injuries were recorded; however, three Army personnel sustained minor abrasions. Officials indicated that this arrest is a significant advancement in tracing those responsible for the coordinated assault.
