Six Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested in Tripura en Route to Jalpaiguri
Acting on a tip-off, personnel from the 154th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) detained six Bangladeshi nationals, including a child, at Ambassa Railway Station in Dhalai district of Tripura on Sunday. Sources indicate that the detainees arrived in Ambassa with plans to travel to Jalpaiguri in West Bengal in search of work. All individuals reportedly hail from Bagerhat district in Bangladesh.
During preliminary interrogation, one detainee disclosed that he had entered Tripura illegally about a month ago. He had worked at a tea garden in Bangladesh, where he met someone who later connected him with an individual in Agartala. Following this introduction, he and his companions traveled to Agartala, intending to proceed to Jalpaiguri for employment when they were apprehended at Ambassa Railway Station.
The detainees claimed they did not personally know the agent in Jalpaiguri, but indicated that their photographs had been sent to him prior to their journey. BSF officials, in collaboration with the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Ambassa, are actively interrogating the six individuals. Once questioning is completed, they will be handed over to the Ambassa Police Station and are expected to be presented in court on Monday.
Reports suggest that all six entered the state illegally with the assistance of an unidentified individual, who was compensated for their services.
