Empowering Education: Oil India to Fund 47 Girls’ Toilets in Ri Bhoi
State-run Oil India Ltd (OIL) has committed to financing the construction of 47 toilet facilities for girls in schools throughout Ri Bhoi district, addressing significant sanitation challenges and aiming to enhance school attendance. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on October 24 between representatives from OIL and the district’s Deputy Commissioner, Abhilash Baranwal. Under this agreement, OIL will allocate approximately Rs 72 lakh to schools lacking dedicated toilets for female students.
Baranwal emphasized that this initiative was motivated by a visit from Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri earlier this year, during which the inadequate toilet infrastructure in schools was notably highlighted. The collaboration between the district administration and OIL will ensure that construction is closely monitored, promoting quality, timely completion, and effective use of corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. Completion of the project is anticipated by December.
This initiative represents a broader commitment to improve facilities for girls in Meghalaya’s schools, paving the way for improved sanitation infrastructure and fostering consistent attendance.
