Kangabam Priyojit Singh of Manipur achieved an impressive milestone in first-class cricket, scoring his second consecutive century and leading his team to a solid position of 300 for five wickets against Bihar during the Ranji Trophy Plate Group match in Nadiad on Saturday. Priyojit’s remarkable innings of 134 not out surpassed his previous highest score of 102, which he made against Sikkim in the opening match of the season.
Bihar entered the match with confidence, having secured an innings victory over Arunachal Pradesh in their previous game. However, the day began with a challenge for Manipur when Bihar’s Amod Yadav claimed an early wicket, dismissing opener Karnajit Yumnam with just the second ball of the day. Despite this setback, Ulenyai Khwairakpam and Ronald Longjam steadied the innings with a crucial 67-run partnership, putting Manipur in a more secure position before Yadav and Longjam’s unfortunate run-out reduced the team to 189 for five.
Johnson Singh also struggled to convert his promising start into a significant score, falling to debutant off-spinner Sachin Kumar. With Pheiroijam Jotin’s quick dismissal shortly after, Manipur found themselves in a precarious situation. However, Priyojit teamed up with Al Bashid Muhammed to stabilize their innings. The duo remained unbeaten at the end of the day, adding 111 runs for the sixth wicket.
Priyojit exhibited exceptional batting, hitting 20 boundaries and a six in his 174-ball knock, while Bashid contributed steadily with four boundaries during his 108-ball innings. Bihar’s Yadav and Kumar both took two wickets and will be eager to wrap up Manipur’s innings quickly on the following day.
At the close of the day’s play, Manipur stood at 300 for 5 in 90 overs, with Priyojit and Bashid looking to extend their partnership further.
