AI-Enabled CCTVs Heroically Aid Bengaluru Police in Swift Arrest for Rape Attempt – Bangalore News
A dance choreographer has been arrested for attempting to rape a college student after midnight on Saturday, police reported. Utilizing AI-equipped cameras, the police identified and arrested the accused on Monday. The suspect, Mukeshwaran alias Mukesh, 24, from Tamil Nadu, is a skating instructor and has resided in Bengaluru since 2003.
DCP (South-East) Sarah Fathima confirmed Mukesh’s arrest, noting he had no prior criminal record. Around 1.15am Sunday, the victim was hitching a ride from Mukesh after a minor accident involving her friends’ car. Mukesh allegedly diverted her to an isolated location and attempted to rape her. The victim alerted her father and two friends via SOS. Her friends arrived at the scene, forcing Mukesh to flee. They then took the victim to a hospital.
A case was registered under Section 64 (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at HSR Layout police station. The victim, though in shock, provided a statement. Police reviewed CCTV footage over a 10km radius and identified a man pushing a white two-wheeler around 2.04am. This led them to Mukesh, resulting in his arrest. Despite the traumatic experience, the victim resisted and fought the accused.
The police continue to investigate the case, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and the role of technology in crime-solving.
