Harsh Goenka Stands with Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw: A Call for Action Amid Bengaluru’s Dire Infrastructure Crisis!

RPG Group Chairman Harsh Goenka has voiced support for Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, who recently expressed concerns about Bengaluru’s deteriorating infrastructure. In a post on X, Goenka criticized politicians for being defensive, stating that rather than addressing the pressing issues raised by Shaw, they are attempting to politicize her remarks. “It’s unfortunate how thin-skinned our politicians are. When @kiranshaw spoke up about Bengaluru’s crumbling infrastructure, instead of fixing it, they turned it into politics. Now they’ll pressurize her to post ‘positive tweets.’ So typical-attack the critic, not the problem,” he wrote.

This controversy escalated after Shaw rejected claims made by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who suggested she had a “personal agenda” against the state government for highlighting infrastructural issues under Congress rule. Shaw clarified her stance on X, asserting, “Not true. Both @TVMohandasPai and I have criticized deteriorating infrastructure in our city to previous BJP & JDS Governments. Our agenda is clear: clean up and restore roads.”

Public reaction towards Goenka’s comments has been largely supportive, with many netizens echoing his sentiments. One user remarked that the efforts of both Shaw and Pai should be amplified by a coalition of citizens to compel leaders to act. “Ultimately, leaders emerge from and reflect society, so the large public must hold them accountable and choose better representatives to create meaningful change,” they said.

Another user emphasized that blaming unrelated factors won’t resolve the infrastructure crisis plaguing Bengaluru, stating, “When citizens like @kiranshaw & @TVMohandasPai speak up, it’s not politics-it’s pain. Crumbling roads, choking traffic, garbage piles-this is everyone’s lived reality.” Others suggested that businesses in Karnataka should adopt measures to ease traffic congestion, such as implementing company transport, promoting carpooling, and encouraging public transit for employees.

Despite the criticism, some questioned why Bengaluru’s infrastructure issues receive heightened attention. One user pointed out that while the city has rapidly evolved into a tech hub over the past two decades, it suffers from the same problems seen in other major metropolitan areas.

Shaw’s original critique stemmed from a conversation with an overseas business visitor to Biocon Park, who expressed disbelief at the poor state of roads and sanitation. “Doesn’t the government want to support investment? I have just come from China and can’t understand why India can’t get its act together, especially when the winds are favorable,” Shaw quoted the visitor.

In a further defense of Shaw against derogatory comments, former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai highlighted their long-standing ties to Bengaluru, stating, “We are both born here a long time ago. We have lived here all our lives and helped build our city. These kinds of hate-filled narratives only show the sick mind of people who make such claims. If these people call us outsiders, then who is a Bangalorean?”

As the discussion continues, it remains clear that the issues surrounding Bengaluru’s infrastructure are deeply felt by its residents and business leaders alike, who are calling for accountability and action.
