Govt Boosts Safety: Major 25% Increase in Security at Central Govt Hospitals Sparks Relief
The Government has sanctioned a 25% increase in security deployment at all Central government hospitals. In addition to standard security protocols, marshals may be deployed based on specific requests from government hospitals, according to official sources. Despite this enhancement, officials expressed skepticism about the impact of a central law inspired by the Kolkata hospital incident, noting that the alleged rape and murder of a junior doctor there was not related to patient-doctor violence.
Amid rising protests by resident doctors across the nation, demanding a central law following the tragic incident in Kolkata, this move aims to bolster hospital security. Currently, 26 States and Union Territories, including West Bengal, Delhi, Haryana, and Kerala, have enacted legislation to protect healthcare workers, making related offenses cognizable and non-bailable.
Officials have held discussions with Residents Doctors’ Associations, clarifying these aspects. Additionally, a committee chaired by the Director General of Health Services will be established to address various security and facility concerns for resident doctors, such as duty rooms and working hours.
This decision comes in response to a wave of unrest among resident doctors nationwide, who are advocating for safer working conditions and stricter protective measures.
