Shocking Arrest: Student Detained for Controversial Post on Mamata Banerjee Sparks Outrage!
Kolkata Police Arrests Student Over Incendiary Social Media Post Targeting CM Banerjee, Disclosing Victim’s Identity
Kolkata Police have arrested a second-year BCom student, Kirti Sharma, for a provocative social media post inciting violence against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Operating under the Instagram handle "kirtisocial," Sharma allegedly encouraged others to assassinate the Chief Minister. In addition, the police claim that Sharma disclosed the identity and photograph of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor who was brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
The Kolkata Police released a statement addressing the issue: "A complaint was received regarding the accused person using the Instagram ID ‘kirtisocial,’ who uploaded three offensive Instagram stories related to the recent incident at RG Kar Hospital. The posts disclosed the picture and identity of the victim, which is highly offensive. Additionally, the accused shared two stories containing offensive comments and life threats against the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal. These comments are provocative and may incite social unrest and promote hatred among communities."
Kolkata Police have intensified their monitoring of social media content following the rape-murder incident. The police have issued summonses to various individuals, including Trinamool MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, who publicly demanded that the CBI interrogate the Kolkata Police Commissioner regarding the case. Former BJP MP Locket Chatterjee and two prominent doctors have also received summonses for allegedly spreading rumors and disclosing the victim’s identity.
This strategic crackdown by the Kolkata Police aims to curb misinformation and uphold social harmony, reflecting their commitment to maintaining law and order amidst the sensitive backdrop of this heinous crime.
