Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has responded sharply to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s comments regarding Shyamkanu Mahanta, emphasizing that he remains in close contact with both the Director General of Police and Mahanta’s elder brother as developments occur.
In his response, Sarma accused Gogoi of hypocrisy, recalling that the Congress leader had previously mocked Mahanta by using the term “bundiya-bhujiya.” Sarma noted that despite this, Gogoi engaged in friendly interactions with Mahanta during the Jorhat election campaign. He pointed out that such contradictory behavior showcases political opportunism rather than a genuine concern for the issues at hand.
Reiterating his commitment to a transparent and coordinated approach, Sarma assured that the integrity of the investigation is a priority. He also expressed deep respect for the late singer Zubeen Garg, mentioning that many of Garg’s fans have shown appreciation for his government’s handling of the situation and offered their support.
“People understand who is genuinely working for justice and who is merely playing politics,” Sarma stated, affirming that his administration’s actions are grounded in fairness and accountability.
