India Triumphs Over Pakistan by 88 Runs: A Thrilling Cricket Showdown!
Colombo: India achieved a dominant 88-run victory over Pakistan in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup match held at R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday. After setting a total of 247 runs, the Indian team bowled out their opponents for just 159 runs in 43 overs. Pacer Kranti Gaud was named Player of the Match, claiming three wickets for 20 runs, while spinner Deepti Sharma also contributed with three wickets for 45 runs.
Despite losing three quick wickets early on, Sidra Amin fought valiantly, batting until the 40th over and scoring 81 runs off 106 balls. Natalia Pervais supported her with a crucial partnership, adding 33 runs to the total.
Earlier, India’s innings saw a composed performance from Harleen Deol, who scored 46 runs, and Richa Ghosh, who contributed a brisk unbeaten 35. However, the Indian batting lacked continuity, with several players getting off to promising starts but failing to build significant scores, resulting in 173 dot balls. At 159/5 in the 35th over, India’s position looked precarious, especially with Amanjot Kaur absent. It was only in the final four overs that India managed to put on an additional 44 runs, giving their total a more respectable look.
With no batters reaching half-centuries, India relied on their bowlers to defend their total on a challenging pitch for the second consecutive win. For Pakistan, pacer Diana Baig stood out with figures of 4 for 69, while captain Fatima Sana Khan and bowlers Said Iqbal, Rameen Shamim, and Nashra Sandhu contributed with wickets.
Batting first, India started positively as Pratika Rawal showcased some aggressive strokes, hitting three boundaries in a row off Diana Baig. Smriti Mandhana also shone with a square drive and crisp cuts, managing three boundaries herself, and survived an LBW appeal as replays indicated the ball pitched outside leg-stump.
Brief scores: India 247 all out in 50 overs (Harleen Deol 46, Richa Ghosh 35 not out; Diana Baig 4-69, Fatima Sana Khan 2-38) beat Pakistan 159 all out in 43 overs (Sidra Amin 81, Natalia Pervaiz 33, Kranti Gaud 3/20, Deepti Sharma 3/45, Sneh Rana 2/38).
