Heavy rainfall in North Bihar and neighboring Nepal has caused the water levels of major rivers-such as the Gandak, Kosi, Mahananda, and Ganga-to rise rapidly. Over the past 24 hours, several locations in Supaul, Sitamarhi, and West Champaran districts recorded more than 300 millimeters of rain, with the highest rainfall of 385 millimeters occurring at Saraigarh Bhaptiyahi in Supaul district.
In addition, regions including Kishanganj, Purnia, Madhepura, Saharsa, and East Champaran have reported rainfall between 110 and 200 millimeters. The intense downpour has severely disrupted daily life across several districts in North Bihar. Compounding the situation, the heavy rainfall in Nepal has increased pressure on the Kosi Barrage located at Birpur in Supaul district. In response to the rising water pressure, all 56 gates of the Kosi Barrage were opened this morning, releasing approximately five lakh cubic feet of water. The district administration is now on high alert due to the potential flood situation.
