Shock and Controversy: Zubeen Garg Allegedly Poisoned, Claims Bandmate

In a shocking claim, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, a band member of the late Zubeen Garg, has accused the singer’s manager, Siddharth Sharma, and festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta of poisoning him. This allegation surfaced in a remand note detailing the circumstances surrounding Garg’s untimely death, which occurred under mysterious conditions while swimming off the coast of Singapore on September 19.

Goswami reported that Sharma was shouting “Jabo de, jabo de” (let him go, let him go) as Garg struggled to breathe, suggesting a deliberate disregard for the singer’s distress. He further asserted that there was a “conspiracy” to misrepresent Garg’s death as accidental. According to the sensitive document, accessed by PTI, Goswami indicated that the poison was intentionally administered to conceal the actors’ culpability, and that the choice of a foreign location was strategic.

A nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) is currently investigating the case. The witness statement from Goswami, recorded under Section 175 BNSS, added that prior to Garg’s death, suspicions emerged about Sharma’s behavior while they were at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore.

Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, responded to these allegations by questioning why Goswami had remained silent for so long. She emphasized the love Garg had for others and expressed her hope for justice if wrongdoing was proven. “If anyone has done this, they must face the strictest punishment,” she asserted.

The remand note also detailed an incident in which Sharma allegedly took control of the yacht from its captain, endangering everyone on board. Additionally, Goswami said that Sharma instructed another individual, Tanmoy Phukan, not to procure drinks, asserting that he alone would handle it, which raised further red flags.

When Garg exhibited alarming symptoms, such as frothing at the mouth and nose, Sharma dismissed the situation as mere acid reflux and failed to seek necessary medical attention, thus enabling Garg’s demise, as indicated in the remand notes.

Charges have already been filed against Sharma, Mahanta, Goswami, and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta, including criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Evidence collected during the investigation, comprising documents and witness statements, significantly implicates Sharma.

Further corroborating the accusations, Amritprava and actress Nishita Goswami, who were also present in Singapore, claimed that Sharma facilitated Garg’s access to alcohol and unsavory company by arranging for inappropriate accommodations. Documentation highlights that Sharma has not provided satisfactory explanations for these arrangements.

The CID is actively looking into the case after more than 60 FIRs were filed against Mahanta and nearly ten others in connection with Garg’s death. All four individuals implicated have been arrested and are currently in a 14-day police remand. To ensure a thorough investigation, the state government has appointed a one-person judicial commission led by Justice Soumitra Saikia of the Gauhati High Court to further examine the circumstances surrounding Zubeen Garg’s death.
