Agartala is set to host a vibrant cultural celebration this Saturday as the Tripura government prepares for the fourth edition of the Mayer Gamon Carnival, showcasing a procession of Durga idols from the region’s most prominent pujas. Chief Minister Manik Saha will officially inaugurate the event, which is anticipated to involve approximately 40 community puja committees.
Bimbisar Bhattacharya, the Director of Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA), mentioned that the Chief Minister will be accompanied by cabinet colleagues, Members of the Legislative Assembly, and other elected officials during this annual festivity. The carnival will feature processions that highlight various puja themes alongside a range of cultural performances.
A panel of judges from diverse fields will assess the performances, with monetary awards, trophies, and citations being presented to the top three puja committees. Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder has already inspected preparations at the venue to ensure that the event runs smoothly.
In addition to the carnival, the government has organized another significant cultural event, Sarad Samman, scheduled for October 11. During this program, 43 clubs throughout Tripura will be recognized for their successful organization of Durga Puja celebrations.
