Ex-Arunachal Official Captured in Guwahati After Two-Year Cheque Case Chase
Former Arunachal Pradesh director of Town Planning and Municipal Affairs, Amoy Morang, was apprehended in Guwahati on Thursday after eluding authorities for over two years in relation to a cheque bounce case, according to police reports. Morang, who resides in Sitpani, Namsai district, had been found guilty by a court on February 22, 2023, under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. The court mandated that he pay Rs. 1.74 crore, along with an additional Rs. 2 lakh for damages to the complainant. With Morang failing to make the required payment, the court imposed a one-year simple imprisonment sentence. His noncompliance led to multiple non-bailable warrants being issued against him. Eventually, police located and arrested him in Guwahati, as confirmed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Itanagar) Kengo Dirchi.
