Renowned actor Gagan Dev Riar, celebrated for his nuanced performances and authentic screen presence, is set to make waves in the upcoming web series “13th: Some Lessons Aren’t Taught In Classrooms.” Following his acclaimed portrayal of Abdul Karim Telgi in “Scam 2003,” Gagan takes on the role of Mohit Tyagi Sir, a transformative teacher whose impact extends beyond the classroom. Directed by Nishil Sheth, this emotionally rich drama delves into the teacher-student bond. The series features actor-singer Paresh Pahuja as Ritesh, a student, and is set to stream from October 1 on Sony LIV in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Malayalam.
In an exclusive interview with India.com, Gagan discussed the preparation and approach he undertook to embody Mohit Tyagi Sir. Addressing rumors that the role is inspired by his own life, Gagan clarified, “I want to state that this character is not inspired by his life. While the character of Mohit Tyagi is built around a real-life figure, it draws on a broader narrative context, similar to how many stories emerged from World War II. However, it’s not a direct reflection of his life.”
Gagan elaborated on the series’ overarching theme, emphasizing that it reflects the dynamic between students and teachers and the traditional Guru-Shishya relationship. He explained, “The story explores how we learn throughout our lives, when learning stagnates, and when it begins again. Mohit Tyagi’s character serves as a strong medium to convey that it’s never too late to start something new in life, and you can begin whenever you wish.”
Paresh Pahuja also shared insights regarding his creative process, discussing the interplay between acting and music. He expressed, “I believe all forms of creativity-acting, writing, music-are extensions of one another. Music is integral to film, and acting enriches music. I enjoy exploring both avenues and find them equally fulfilling. In the future, I aim to broaden my horizons in writing, painting, and even sculpting, as I want to fully experience every role in this single life.”
