Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Expected in Nagaland: Stay Safe with Advisory
The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather advisory for the state, effective from August 27 to August 30, cautioning residents about potential thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate to heavy rainfall across multiple districts. Notably, districts such as Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Phek, Shamator, Tseminyu, Tuensang, and Wokha are expected to experience moderate intermittent rainfall on August 30. Conversely, lowland and foothill districts, including Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli, remain at high risk for waterlogging and flash floods.
In light of these weather conditions, authorities are urging residents to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property. Recommendations include storing valuables in safe locations, evacuating low-lying areas when advised, avoiding contact with floodwater, disconnecting electrical devices, and ensuring that drinking water is either boiled or treated.
The NSDMA has called on all District Disaster Management Authorities and relevant departments to remain vigilant during this monsoon period. For emergencies, residents are advised to contact the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) at the toll-free number 1070.
Dr. Johnny Ruangmei, Joint Chief Executive Officer of the NSDMA, underscored the significance of public alertness and prompt actions to reduce risk during this forecasted adverse weather period.
