Former Supreme Court judge Justice (Retd.) B. Sudershan Reddy officially launched his campaign for the Vice Presidency on Thursday, submitting his nomination papers as the unified candidate of the Opposition INDIA alliance at the Secretary-General’s office in Parliament House.
Shortly after completing this process, Justice Reddy expressed his gratitude toward the Opposition parties for their confidence in him. He stated that he is approaching the upcoming election with “humility, responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to the Constitution.”
“This election transcends a single individual; it serves as a reaffirmation of the vision for India envisioned by our founders-an India where Parliament operates with integrity, where dissent is honored, and where institutions function independently and fairly for the people,” he remarked.
Reflecting on his extensive career as a judge and lifelong learner of law, Justice Reddy highlighted that the Republic’s strength depends on “the dignity of every individual, the safeguarding of constitutional morality, and the unity in our diversity.”
Recognizing the crucial role of the Vice President as Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, he vowed to uphold the highest standards of parliamentary democracy. “I pledge to fulfill this role with impartiality, dignity, and a robust commitment to dialogue and decorum,” he assured.
