Shocking Allegations: Tejashwi Yadav’s Electoral Eligibility Under Fire Amid Forgery Probe in Bihar!
A day after the Election Commission of India (ECI) released the Draft Electoral Rolls as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav reported that he could not find his name linked to a second Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC). According to PTI, the ECI stated that it is plausible the second EPIC number was never generated through official channels.
The Commission responded directly to Yadav’s accusation that his EPIC number was altered, clarifying that he had used EPIC No. RAB0456228 for his nomination in 2020. ECI sources confirmed that this EPIC number appeared on the electoral roll as far back as 2015. The inquiry revealed that the second EPIC number, RAB2916120, does not exist in the official records, with over a decade of records being reviewed.
The ECI is currently investigating the legitimacy of the second EPIC number, considering the possibility that it may be a forged document. “The second EPIC number has been found to be non-existent. We have checked records going back over ten years and found no documentation for it,” a source stated. This inquiry aims to clarify whether any foul play occurred regarding the legitimacy of Yadav’s claims.
Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, vocally criticized the ECI following the release of the draft electoral rolls on August 1, highlighting his exclusion from the list. He raised concerns about the potential alteration of his EPIC number, questioning how many other citizens might also be affected. “If my EPIC number could be changed, how many others have experienced the same? This is a calculated move to disenfranchise voters,” he asserted.
In response, the ECI emphatically maintained that Yadav’s name does appear in the draft list at serial number 416. “It has come to our attention that Yadav has falsely claimed his absence from the draft electoral roll. His name is indeed present, contradicting his statements,” the Commission stated.
Patna’s District Administration echoed the ECI’s clarification, noting that Yadav’s name is registered at polling station number 204, located at the Library Building of Bihar Animal Science University. The District Magistrate added, “An investigation confirmed that Yadav’s name is recorded in the draft voter list.” His earlier registration was noted at polling station number 171.
The ECI announced that the public can submit claims and objections regarding the electoral list for a month, assuring that “no name will be removed from the draft voter list without a valid reason.” The Commission detailed that the draft voter list is accessible to the public and political parties, highlighting the ongoing opportunity for voters to verify and update their information.
With the political stakes high as elections approach, the situation underscores the critical importance of voter registration accuracy and transparency in the electoral process. The ECI has reiterated its commitment to upholding the integrity of the voter list, emphasizing thorough documentation and clear communication with the public as vital aspects of the democratic process in Bihar.
