Assam CM Ensures Timely Aid and Erosion Control at Golaghat Flood Camp
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited a flood relief camp at Simaluchapori LP School in Sarupathar, Golaghat district, on Saturday. His visit aimed to assess the flood situation and engage with residents affected by the disaster. During his time at the camp, the Chief Minister reviewed ongoing relief efforts and directed the District Commissioner to quickly carry out a detailed damage assessment and begin compensation procedures for the affected families. He also toured a special medical camp established at the relief center, urging healthcare teams to provide enhanced medical services, particularly to vulnerable groups like pregnant women, the elderly, and children.
While interacting with local residents, Sarma emphasized the importance of being present during such crises. “Throughout the flood situation, I remained in touch with the District Commissioner and the local MLA. Today, I came here personally to listen to the concerns of the people,” he stated.
In response to community calls for erosion control in the area, Dr. Sarma assured the residents that immediate action would be taken. “People have urged for immediate erosion control, and I will initiate necessary measures very soon,” he confirmed.
Addressing public health concerns following the flooding, Dr. Sarma mentioned that while waterborne diseases often arise in such situations, the current health condition is stable. “Doctors have confirmed that there is no immediate health threat. There’s no cause for alarm at this moment,” he declared.
Additionally, the Chief Minister addressed issues related to encroachment, revealing plans for a forest department team to inspect the area soon. “Once the department submits its report, we will engage with local stakeholders, including the MLA, to determine the necessary course of action,” he noted.
