Two Women Arrested at Agartala Railway Station with 24 kg of Ganja
In a significant late-night operation on July 12, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Agartala railway station arrested two women attempting to smuggle a substantial quantity of ganja. Authorities confiscated 23.66 kilograms of dry ganja, which was packed into eight packets and hidden within two trolley bags.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Smt. Meenakshi Debnath, also known as Monali, aged 30, from Shantirbazar in the South Tripura district, and Sabina Bibi, 32, from Baktinagar, Janata Para in Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal. During initial questioning, the women allegedly admitted they intended to transport the ganja to Chennai via Deoghar. They claimed that the seized consignment could potentially yield around Rs 7.93 lakh in the Chennai market.
Following the arrests, a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Agartala GRP police station. Law enforcement officials suspect that there may be additional individuals involved in this smuggling operation, and further arrests could follow. The two accused are set to be presented in court on July 13, as the investigation continues.
