Mizoram MP Sounds Alarm on Plummeting IAS, IPS Aspirants in State
Mizoram’s sole Lok Sabha MP, Richard Vanlalhmangaiha, expressed significant concern on Friday regarding the decreasing number of IAS, IPS, and IFS officers hailing from the state. He urged students to embrace the challenge of the UPSC Civil Services Examination, which has seen no successful candidates from Mizoram in recent years.
Speaking at a felicitation event organized by the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP)—the state’s premier student organization-for gold medalists from the recent Mizoram University undergraduate results, Vanlalhmangaiha highlighted that the state has not produced any central civil service officers in recent times. “It is disheartening to see that no student from Mizoram has cleared the UPSC exams in recent years,” he remarked, noting that the last IAS officer from the region was Grace Lalrindiki Pachuau, who passed the examination in 2014.
He encouraged students to rigorously prepare for the exams and revive Mizoram’s legacy of generating all-India service officers. Vanlalhmangaiha also offered his unwavering support to aspiring civil servants, stating, “I am always accessible to help students who aim to serve the country through the civil services.”
The MP further emphasized the essential role students play in shaping the future of Mizoram. He called on them to take the initiative and represent the state on a national level through their dedication and hard work. Since 2014, no student from Mizoram has cleared the UPSC to join the IAS, IPS, or IFS, creating a noticeable gap in representation at the central administrative level.
