Relentless Downpour Engulfs Delhi: IMD’s Urgent Yellow Alert Issued | Must-Watch Video
Heavy rain drenched parts of Delhi on Sunday morning as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted moderate showers and a cloudy sky for the capital. The IMD reported that the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 32°C and 26°C respectively and has issued a yellow alert for the city.
The downpour prompted Delhi residents to play and exercise in Rohini Sector 23, as captured by ANI. The weather disruption on Saturday caused significant traffic issues and waterlogging across the city. Authorities reported that the Public Works Department received 20 waterlogging complaints, while the Municipal Corporation of Delhi received five, alongside reports of fallen trees.
Eastern, southern, and western sectors of Delhi experienced severe traffic congestion, particularly affecting Rohtak Road and the highway to Haryana. The Delhi Traffic Police advised commuters via a notice on X to avoid the Mundka area due to waterlogging and potholes. Waterlogging near Khyber Pass also delayed traffic on Ring Road from IP College to Mall Road.
In addition to Delhi, the IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy rain in several states, including Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, and Kerala. IMD scientist Soma Sen noted that heavy rainfall was expected particularly over East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh, with up to 20 cm predicted. Light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy downpours is anticipated in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and East Uttar Pradesh until August 16, with specific dates for heavy falls in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana.
