Belgium’s Bold Warning: MEA Jaishankar Vows Striking Power Against Terrorism Threats
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar issued a stern warning on Tuesday, stating that India would take decisive action deep within Pakistan if provoked by terrorist attacks. While speaking to Politico in Brussels during a week-long European tour, Jaishankar explicitly accused Pakistan of harboring and training terrorists, reiterating India’s unwavering stance of zero tolerance toward terrorism.
Jaishankar emphasized, “We are not going to live with it. If you continue to carry out the kind of barbaric acts you did in April, expect retribution against terrorist organizations and their leadership.” He further asserted that India would not hesitate to strike even deep within Pakistani territory to combat terrorism.
Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors have surged since the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which ended in the tragic loss of 26 lives. In response, India conducted precision strikes targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. These on-ground hostilities, lasting four days, concluded on May 10 after military talks between the countries’ directors general of military operations.
Despite a cessation of recent military actions, Jaishankar underscored that the core issues fueling this conflict remain unresolved. He categorized Pakistan as “a country very steeped in its use of terrorism as an instrument of state policy,” highlighting the long-standing challenges. Responding to queries about the ongoing tensions that led to last month’s conflict, he confirmed, “If you call the commitment to terrorism a source of tension, absolutely, it is.”
In terms of military engagements, Jaishankar noted that assessments regarding losses would be addressed at an appropriate time, but he did highlight that India’s use of fighter jets and missiles caused “far more extensive damage” to the Pakistani Air Force than the other way around. He pointed to the effectiveness of India’s Rafale aircraft and stated, “The proof of the pudding are the destroyed and disabled airfields on the Pakistani side.”
He elaborated on the military response, claiming that the fighting concluded on May 10 uniquely due to the significant damage inflicted on eight major Pakistani airfields, which were rendered inoperable. Jaishankar referred to publicly available satellite images corroborating the extent of the damage to runways and hangars.
Jaishankar’s European tour serves to strengthen bilateral relations and reaffirm India’s commitment to its policy of zero tolerance against terrorism. Following the Pahalgam attack, India has engaged with the international community by dispatching delegations to 33 countries, urging a united response to Pakistan’s hostile actions and reaffirming its readiness to carry out precise and decisive strikes against terrorist hideouts.
As India continues to navigate this complex geopolitical landscape, it remains steadfast in its efforts to combat terrorism and protect its national security interests.
