PM Modi: Foiling Pakistan’s Plot Against Kashmir’s Economy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a large gathering on Friday, asserting that the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, orchestrated by Pakistan, sought to undermine both the economy of Kashmir and the sense of unity among its people. He stated that Pakistan’s attempts to create unrest and harm the livelihoods of the industrious locals failed, as the Indian Armed Forces responded decisively against the neighboring country.
“Pakistan’s attack was not only against humanity but also against the essence of Kashmiriyat,” Modi remarked, highlighting the intent behind targeting tourists to disrupt the region’s economy and peace. He recalled the initiation of Operation Sindoor, which began exactly a month prior, emphasizing that Pakistan would always remember its humiliating defeat in this endeavor.
“Today marks June 6, coincidentally the anniversary of a significant blow to Pakistani terrorists. Whenever they hear the name Operation Sindoor, they will recall this defeat,” the Prime Minister expressed.
Modi also inaugurated the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, signaling a transformative milestone in the development of Jammu and Kashmir. He described the project as a “symbol of a new, empowered Jammu and Kashmir,” representing India’s growing strength and unity. “Today’s event is more than just the launch of a train; it is a celebration of India’s resilience. With the blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi, the Kashmir Valley is now seamlessly connected to the rest of India,” he added.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the Chenab Bridge and the Anji Bridge, predicting that they would not only facilitate prosperity but also attract numerous visitors to Kashmir. The Chenab Bridge, recently completed, surpasses the height of the Eiffel Tower and stands as a testament to India’s engineering prowess.
During his speech, Modi reflected on the realization of a long-held dream for many in Jammu and Kashmir. “It is our government’s fortune that this project gained momentum and was completed under our tenure,” he said.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha remarked on the significance of this connection, stating that “Kashmir to Kanyakumari” is no longer just a slogan, implying the successful integration of the nation.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah echoed the sentiment, asserting that enhanced rail connectivity would benefit locals and streamline the transport of agricultural products across the country. He also acknowledged the contributions of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in advancing this national project.
Earlier, Modi dedicated the USBRL to the nation by launching the Vande Bharat train service from Katra to Srinagar, reinforcing his commitment to improving rail infrastructure in the region. The USBRL, stretching 272 kilometers and built at a cost of approximately ₹43,780 crores, includes 36 tunnels and 943 bridges, promising to transform regional mobility and spur socio-economic integration.
This event marked Modi’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir during Operation Sindoor, following the devastating terror attack on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and a local resident.
Of the total USBRL project, 209 kilometers have been commissioned in phases, with significant sections opened between 2009 and 2022, culminating in the recent completion of the final stretches. The new Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express will feature advanced technology designed to function efficiently in extreme cold, capable of handling temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius. The train will operate on one of the world’s highest railway arch bridges, the Anji Bridge, contributing to the region’s allure as a travel destination.
