Tripura’s Solar Power Expansion: A Sustainable Future Beckons
Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced on Wednesday that the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has garnered an enthusiastic response from consumers across the state. This initiative, aimed at promoting home electricity generation through solar energy, seeks to lower electricity bills and provide households with the opportunity to earn additional income by selling surplus electricity back to the grid.
Inaugurating a camp under the scheme at the Belonia subdivision of South Tripura district, Minister Nath highlighted the Prime Minister’s commitment to renewable energy, particularly solar power. He remarked, “Modern life is unimaginable without electricity. The Prime Minister’s emphasis on renewable energy is aimed at ensuring a sustainable future for upcoming generations.” The minister emphasized that this scheme allows households to generate their own electricity, significantly reduce their bills, and potentially earn income by providing excess power to the grid, particularly benefiting economically weaker sections of society.
Minister Nath further revealed that the scheme is actively being implemented in Tripura, with awareness campaigns ongoing in various subdivisions. He noted that many consumers have successfully installed solar plants under the initiative, with some reporting total elimination of their electricity bills and the ability to earn by supplying surplus power.
He also underscored the eco-friendly nature of the project, stating that domestic consumers can set up solar systems of up to 10 kilowatts under this program. “Unlike natural gas, this initiative is environmentally sustainable. I urge all eligible citizens to take advantage of this opportunity,” he encouraged.
