Trump’s Powerful Call for Peace: A Bold Invitation to Putin and Zelensky in Turkey!

US President Donald Trump has expressed a willingness to engage in negotiations with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s invitation, contingent upon the participation of both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on June 3 that Trump is open to talks only if the leaders from both sides can come together at the negotiating table.

While the details of Erdogan’s proposal remain under wraps, insiders reveal that he has suggested facilitating discussions between Russia and Ukraine in a bid to resolve escalating regional tensions. Erdogan aims to host a significant summit involving Trump, Putin, and Zelensky in Istanbul or Ankara within the month, marking a renewed push for peace in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

However, the initiative has not garnered unanimous support. Putin has so far rejected the offer to participate, while Zelensky has shown openness to the idea, underscoring the importance of direct dialogue among leaders to tackle vital issues. “Key issues can only be resolved at leaders-level,” Zelensky stated after recent talks were held in Istanbul.

As diplomatic efforts intensify, a comprehensive ceasefire remains elusive. Ukraine has reported that Russia dismissed calls for an unconditional truce, instead proposing a limited pause of two to three days in specific frontline regions. “The Russian side continues to oppose the unconditional ceasefire,” said Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy Kyslytsya, while Russian chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky confirmed the limited offer for a ceasefire to facilitate the collection of dead soldiers.

Documents presented by Russian negotiators indicate that Moscow is demanding a complete withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from four contested regions: Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson, as well as restrictions on Ukraine’s military capabilities and a firm ban on its NATO membership in exchange for peace.

Despite these tensions, progress has been made on humanitarian issues, with both parties agreeing to conduct a prisoner swap involving severely wounded soldiers and captured fighters under the age of 25, which will see at least 1,000 individuals exchanged. Additionally, the agreement includes the repatriation of the remains of 6,000 fallen soldiers from both sides.

In a press conference in Vilnius, Zelensky reiterated that any future agreements must not reward Russia for its aggression. He asserted, “The key to lasting peace is clear — the aggressor must not receive any reward for war,” stressing that a permanent peace can only be achieved once hostilities cease.

Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov, who led Kyiv’s delegation, called for a follow-up meeting before the end of June and supported the idea of a summit between Putin and Zelensky. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan described the recent negotiations as constructive, stating that the parties built upon agreements established in prior meetings and that preparations for a potential leaders’ summit are ongoing.

As the world watches these diplomatic developments closely, the potential for renewed dialogue between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States hinges on cooperation from all parties involved.
