The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall affecting four districts in Kerala, urging both residents and authorities to stay vigilant. The alert, announced on Sunday, highlights that Kasaragod, Kannur, Ernakulam, and Alappuzha are expected to receive significant rains measuring between 7 cm and 11 cm. Meanwhile, other areas of the state will likely experience moderate rainfall as the monsoon conditions strengthen.

This yellow alert serves as a critical warning for the public and local administrations to prepare for possible rain-related disruptions. Notably, Kasaragod district experienced the heaviest rainfall in the state during the 24 hours concluding at 8:30 a.m. on May 31. Although the IMD did not disclose the specific rainfall amount for Muliyar in Kasaragod, data indicates that neighboring areas such as Kudlu and Panathur recorded 14 cm and 12 cm of rain respectively during the same timeframe.

Additionally, the IMD has warned of gusty winds along the Kerala coast, which may reach speeds of up to 55 kmph on Sunday. Fishermen are strongly advised against venturing into the sea and should keep a close watch for further updates from the meteorological department.

The alert also includes potential lightning incidents across the state, prompting the IMD to issue a lightning warning. Residents, especially those living in vulnerable areas, are encouraged to avoid open spaces and find shelter during expected thunderstorms.

State disaster management officials have been notified to implement preventive measures, particularly in districts under yellow alert. Local authorities are also advised to maintain emergency services on standby and monitor low-lying areas for possible waterlogging.

With the monsoon rains expected to intensify over the coming days, it is imperative for the public to remain prudent and adhere to official advisories to ensure safety.
