Demand for Withdrawal: Peace and Unity Amid Rising Tensions
The Assam unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s decision to arm civilians in the state, labeling it a reckless and reprehensible choice that fails to ensure a safe environment for the public. Dr. Bhuben Choudhury, AAP’s state president, expressed concern in a press release regarding Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s potential intent to create a situation in Assam similar to that of Manipur. He emphasized that ensuring the safety of life is a constitutional responsibility of the government, which has the laws and administrative mechanisms in place to protect the community.
Additionally, Dr. Choudhury pointed out that the current BJP administration has been completely ineffective in maintaining law and order in the state. He accused the government of inciting violence under the pretext of ensuring security for certain groups, leading to communal strife and turmoil. The Aam Aadmi Party has called for the immediate withdrawal of what they termed a suicidal decision for the sake of peace and unity in Assam.
