Tragic Accident: 9-Year-Old Boy Electrocuted at Delhi Park Playtime
A nine-year-old boy was electrocuted while playing in a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) park in Southeast Delhi’s Kalkaji on Saturday night. The tragic incident raised significant safety concerns among local residents. In response, police have partially sealed off the park and registered a case of negligence; however, no immediate comments were provided by the MCD.
Authorities reported that a call was made to the Kalkaji police station at 9:30 PM regarding the incident. Upon arrival, officers were informed that Aryaman, the boy, had been taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to police statements, the electrocution occurred when Aryaman attempted to retrieve a ball that had rolled near an electric pole. “The child went near the pole to get the ball and accidentally made contact with an open switchboard,” a police officer explained.
Several neighbors attempted to assist Aryaman at the scene. Witness Tara Chaudhary managed to pull him away from the electric source, while a doctor from the area performed CPR but was unable to revive the child.
Aryaman resided in one of the DDA flats adjacent to the park, and his father, Randeep Chaudhary, works as a yoga teacher. The police are currently investigating to determine who is responsible for the maintenance of the electrical infrastructure in the park. A case has been registered under section 289, which pertains to negligent conduct with machinery, along with additional charges against unidentified individuals. The area surrounding the switchboard has since been sealed by authorities.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among local residents about the safety and upkeep of public parks in the area. “Some residents gathered on Sunday for a small prayer ceremony for the child and expressed worries regarding similar parks nearby,” said a local community member.
