
Union Minister Sonowal’s Vision for Dibrugarh’s Urban Development Projects
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal recently chaired a high-level review meeting with the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) to evaluate the progress of ongoing development projects in Dibrugarh, Assam. As the Lok Sabha representative for the region, Sonowal emphasized the need to transform this historic town in Upper Assam into a modern, well-planned urban center that is both visually appealing and functional.
During the meeting, he stressed the urgency of implementing infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing the residents’ quality of life. Key topics included the need for flood control measures, particularly through the fortification and expansion of the drainage network, road improvement initiatives, and various beautification projects.
Sonowal urged local officials and elected representatives to ensure the timely completion of all projects currently underway. Attendees of the review meeting included Assam Minister and Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, along with Mayor Saikat Patra, Deputy Mayor Ujjal Phukan, senior officials, and other local representatives.
Reiterating the central government’s commitment to urban transformation in Dibrugarh, Sonowal highlighted that civic development must align with the aspirations of the community.
