Brace for Impact: Delhi Faces More Rain and Thunderstorms After Tragic Downpour Claims 4 Lives | IMD Forecast Insights
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised a yellow alert for Delhi, expecting partly cloudy skies today along with the potential for thunder and lightning. Rainfall is predicted for Monday, as the weather office warns of possible thunderstorms in the national capital throughout the week. Temperature forecasts indicate highs of 38 degrees Celsius and lows around 27 degrees Celsius.
This alert follows a severe weather event on Saturday in which a heavy downpour mixed with strong winds resulted in tragic fatalities. In central Delhi’s Paharganj area, three men lost their lives, and one was injured after a wall of an under-construction basement collapsed. The incident also caused damage to a tin roof at a newly constructed RRTS station.
Former Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi expressed deep sorrow over the losses. AAP MLA Imran Hussain, who visited the site, has since directed the district magistrate to expedite compensation for the victims’ families and ensure a thorough investigation into the incident.
Another casualty occurred in the Prahladpur area, where a man died and his partner sustained injuries due to a wall collapse during welding work at a construction site overseen by the Shahbad Dairy police station. Authorities identified the deceased as 35-year-old Ashok Kumar, with the injured individual being identified as Sumit Kumar.
Additionally, heavy rainfall has caused structural damage, including to a section of the steel roof at the New Ashok Nagar station on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, as reported by news agency PTI.
In the coming days, extensive rainfall coupled with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected across various parts of India. Affected regions include Northeast India—encompassing Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura—along with South Indian states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep. Western India, including Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada, along with Central and Eastern India, covering Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Bihar, and the Northwestern and Northern states—Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi—will also experience similar weather conditions.
As residents prepare for the forecasted rain and thunderstorms, authorities continue to monitor weather patterns to provide timely updates and ensure public safety.
