MLCU Launches Exciting 5-Year Integrated Undergraduate Program!
Shillong, May 15: Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) is set to launch new five-year integrated undergraduate and diploma programs starting in the upcoming academic session. This initiative aims to broaden access to higher education, prompted by the impressive pass rates in the SSLC and HSSLC examinations conducted by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE).
At a press conference on Thursday, MLCU Registrar Dr. Iadonlang Tynsong announced that the new programs are designed to adapt to the changing educational landscape and fulfill the aspirations of young students seeking quality education and promising career opportunities. “This initiative is not merely about launching new courses—it’s about creating new opportunities,” he emphasized.
The need to enhance access to quality higher education has become increasingly apparent, especially following the commendable academic performance of Class 10 and 12 students across various disciplines this year, as noted by the university’s registrars. Many students face challenges in securing admission to existing institutions due to limited seat availability.
In response, MLCU Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Larilin Kharpuri highlighted the introduction of career-relevant undergraduate programs tailored to meet students’ ambitions and the current job market demands. “To bridge this gap, we are proposing interdisciplinary and skills-focused programs aligned with employment opportunities and entrepreneurship,” she stated.
Dr. Kharpuri also pointed out that this initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which focuses on reducing drop-out rates and ensuring universal access to education at all levels. The new offerings will include: Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) with specializations in CA/CS, Taxation, Banking, and Insurance, Bachelor of Arts in English with Smart Media, Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Sociology, and Economics, Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports, Bachelor of Visual Arts, Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Wellness, and Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences and Sustainable Development.
In addition to the undergraduate degrees, MLCU will also provide a two-year diploma program, followed by a three-year undergraduate degree with an option for a four-year honors track. This flexible structure aims to assist students who may need more time to explore their interests while building a solid foundation for future studies or employment.
“We’re introducing these programs at a minimal fee to ensure they are accessible and inclusive for students from all backgrounds,” Dr. Kharpuri added. To further assist the first batch of incoming students, MLCU is offering a 50% discount on total fees for the undergraduate programs, available on a first-come, first-served basis. For the five-year integrated UG program, a nominal fee will apply during the initial two-year diploma phase.
“We hope this gesture makes higher education more accessible and empowers students to confidently step into their futures,” she concluded.
