Landowners in Goalpara and Dhubri to Receive Fair Compensation, Assures CM
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Goalpara and Dhubri on May 15, assuring fair compensation for local residents whose land will be acquired for upcoming projects in both districts. During his time in Goalpara, he inspected the site designated for a new medical college in Agia. Arriving at the DN Singha Stadium in Baladmari alongside Minister Prasanta Phukan, he stated, “I have checked the land, but we need to acquire a bit more so that the medical college can be connected to the four-lane highway. Currently, 80 bighas of land are available, and an additional 20 bighas will need to be acquired from local residents. We will provide fair compensation to them.” If all goes as planned, construction of the Goalpara Medical College will commence later this year.
Additionally, a thermal power plant is under consideration in Goalpara, pending land availability. The Chief Minister highlighted that the project could generate significant employment opportunities, estimating a cost of around Rs 20,000-25,000 crore and the potential to create jobs for approximately 25,000-30,000 individuals. “But it won’t be easy; let’s see,” he remarked.
Earlier that day, Sarma conducted a survey in Dhubri district for a proposed thermal power project by the Adani Group. The survey covered villages such as Charuabakhra, Chirakuta, and Santoshpur within the Chapar revenue circle, where around 3,500 bighas of land have been earmarked for the initiative. This project is projected to attract an investment of Rs 20,000 crore, transforming the region into an industrial hub with abundant employment prospects.
Addressing community concerns, the Chief Minister assured locals that the historical burial ground in Tilapara would remain untouched after consulting with residents. He also guaranteed that individuals holding patta land would receive appropriate compensation or alternative land nearby. “There is no need for anyone with patta land to worry. Land acquisition will be carried out peacefully, and rightful owners will be adequately compensated,” he affirmed.
Sarma noted that over 25,000 people would find employment during the construction phase, and the long-term benefits could provide jobs for nearly 10,000 youth. Urging local cooperation, he concluded, “This project will determine the future of the entire region. I appeal to all to support its successful implementation.”
