In Odisha, the three grand chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra have successfully reached the Sri Gundicha Temple in Puri this afternoon, marking the conclusion of the initial phase of the globally renowned ‘Rath Yatra’ festivities. A vast throng of devotees, numbering in the thousands, fervently pulled the chariots, while lakhs of spectators congregated along Puri’s Grand Road to witness the iconic procession.

The Rath Yatra, featuring the sibling deities, commenced yesterday afternoon. However, in adherence to traditional customs, the procession paused a few meters in due to sunset, resuming its journey earlier today. The three majestic chariots will remain stationed outside the Sri Gundicha Temple tonight, with the deities being ceremoniously escorted into the temple premises tomorrow. The deities will reside at the Sri Gundicha Temple for a duration of one week before embarking on their return pilgrimage to the Sri Mandir, an event popularly known as the ‘Bahuda Yatra’.

Notably, this year’s Rath Yatra spanned over two days, a rare occurrence attributed to celestial arrangements not seen since 1971.
