BCCI’s Urgent Meeting Today: IPL Rescheduling on the Agenda
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will convene today, May 11, to deliberate on the best possible schedule for resuming the suspended T20 League, following the recent escalation of tensions in the region. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla confirmed this decision after the Indian Premier League (IPL) was halted on Friday, with 16 matches still remaining. The suspension arose due to the growing concern over the India-Pakistan border conflict, which has intensified following the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s subsequent military operations.
“The war has stopped. In this new situation, BCCI officials and the IPL Governing Council will discuss the matter tomorrow and reach a decision regarding the tournament’s completion,” Shukla stated to PTI Videos. He emphasized that various scheduling options would be considered, particularly if military tensions persist, suggesting that southern cities like Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad might become potential venues.
“That was a consideration when the conflict was active. Now, with the ceasefire announced, we need some time to discuss and finalize our plans,” he added.
Currently, 12 league matches and four playoff matches remain to be completed. An IPL source, familiar with broadcaster logistics, indicated that while many venues are expected to retain their matches, the scenic Dharamsala may be removed from the lineup when the tournament resumes. Initially, the broadcasters had instructed crews to remain in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai amid the escalating crisis, but following the ceasefire, they have been directed to stay at all original venues.
“Chances are high that except for the match in Dharamsala, which could be relocated, places like Kolkata will keep their matches,” the source noted.
Thursday’s match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was abandoned due to the conflict. As the Dharamsala airport was closed, both teams’ players and support staff were forced to travel by bus to Jalandhar and then took a train to Delhi.
As for the remaining league matches, Ahmedabad is set to host three, while Lucknow and Bengaluru are scheduled for two matches each. Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Jaipur will each conduct one match. The future of the Dharamsala match—whether it resumes from the point of suspension or restarts from the beginning—remains unclear.
The playoffs are anticipated to be held in Hyderabad and Kolkata, with the historic Eden Gardens designated for the final match. Many foreign players participating in the league have already departed the country.
