Arunachal Pradesh Governor Champions Waqf Reform Awareness for Community Empowerment
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor KT Parnaik participated in the Waqf Reform Awareness Meet held at the Raj Bhavan on Friday. An official statement from the Raj Bhavan indicated that the gathering brought together community leaders, scholars, and representatives from diverse faiths to discuss the crucial implications of the recently enacted Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025. During his interactions with the attendees, the governor underscored that the Bill emerged from extensive consultations and collaborative efforts aimed at instituting meaningful reforms that would benefit all segments of the Muslim community. He highlighted that the process was steered by the ethos of ‘Sabka Prayas’, embodying a genuine spirit of national engagement and teamwork.
Parnaik described the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 as a progressive leap forward, intended to ensure that the benefits and revenues generated from waqf properties contribute to the upliftment of the underprivileged, enabling them to stand on equal footing with other communities. He emphasized that this reform transcends mere administrative changes; rather, it focuses on empowerment and equity. The governor further encouraged the Muslim community to embrace their identity without viewing themselves as a minority. Drawing upon the inspiring legacies of prominent Muslim figures, including President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, he affirmed that the community has significantly contributed to the development and advancement of both society and the nation.
Acknowledging the diverse participation in the meet, Parnaik noted that in Arunachal Pradesh, residents harbor great respect for all religions. He urged everyone to nurture goodwill and constructive thoughts for the betterment of society, the state, and the country. Indigenous Affairs and Home Minister Mama Natung characterized the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 as a corrective and inclusive step, aligning with the national vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas. He encouraged citizens to recognize the positive impacts of the Bill and collaborate to bolster communal harmony.
Professors Nani Bath and Nabum Naka Hina from the Department of Political Science at Rajiv Gandhi University, together with MQ Khan, Principal of Dera Natung Government College, delivered insightful presentations on the history of waqf, the key amendments introduced in the Bill, and the long-term benefits anticipated for the community.
