Empowering Change: GSP and Adivasi Suraksha Samiti Unite for Justice Ahead of Baksa Council Polls
In a pivotal move ahead of the upcoming council elections, the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) and the Adivasi Suraksha Samiti convened a significant joint meeting in Dihira, located in Assam’s Baksa district, on May 6. The gathering attracted prominent leaders, including GSP council member Ghanshyam Das and Adivasi Suraksha Samiti General Secretary Jon Das, along with a sizable audience of Adivasi supporters.
Yadav Das, President of the GSP Dihira Block Committee, articulated the meeting’s purpose: to unite their forces and establish a cohesive strategy for the election. He emphasized, “This meeting marks a step towards electoral unity aimed at protecting the rights and interests of our people.”
During his passionate address, Jon Das underscored the Adivasi community’s determination to respond decisively to the betrayals they have faced from parties like the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). “The injustices and discrimination inflicted upon Adivasi people over the years will no longer be accepted. This time, the response will be firm and united,” Das stated emphatically.
Das did not shy away from criticizing GSP leader and former MP Naba Sarania. He accused Sarania of siding with the BPF, which he suggested ran counter to the community’s interests. Calling for Sarania to distance himself from these “inconsistencies,” he urged him to champion the grassroots movement instead. “Let the future take its course, but at this critical juncture, Naba Sarania must stand shoulder to shoulder with the people,” Das added.
This meeting marks a key moment for the Adivasi community as they seek unity and representation ahead of the elections. With a focus on collaboration and mutual support, the GSP and Adivasi Suraksha Samiti aim not only to challenge established political players but also to ensure their rights and interests are fiercely defended. As electoral campaigns ramp up, the implications of this coalition could significantly shape the political landscape in the region, promising a formidable challenge to the current ruling parties.
The emerging narrative positions the GSP and Adivasi Suraksha Samiti not just as political entities but as powerful advocates for the marginalized Adivasi community, poised to make a mark in the upcoming electoral battle. As sentiments continue to rally for justice and representation, all eyes will be on how effectively these parties can mobilize their supporters and articulate their vision in the lead-up to the elections.
This unification effort reflects a broader trend in regional politics, where grassroots movements are gaining traction against established parties, potentially redefining power dynamics in Assam’s political arena. The call for a united response by the Adivasi community could be a decisive factor in the forthcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of representation and advocacy for their rights.
