Tripura Takes Bold Steps: First-Ever Ophthalmology Institute and Tourist Police Initiative Unveiled!
Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced the establishment of the state’s first 100-bedded Ophthalmology Institute, aimed at enhancing healthcare in Agartala. During a recent event where he inaugurated multiple projects worth ₹210 crore in the Gomati District, Dr. Saha emphasized ongoing efforts to improve the overall health sector.
“We are also developing district hospitals by establishing trauma care centers across all facilities to strengthen healthcare services,” he stated. Highlighting significant progress made in the health department over the past 35 years, he noted, “We have successfully conducted kidney transplants and are poised to undertake more in the coming days.” Furthermore, he mentioned plans to increase seating capacity at GB Pant Hospital and the creation of a medical hub.
Dr. Saha elaborated on the initiative for opening a tertiary Eye Hospital in Agartala, stressing its importance to residents: “Land has been identified for this 100-bedded facility so that people do not need to seek treatment outside the state. The Ophthalmology Regional Institute will significantly improve local access to eye care.”
Beyond healthcare, the Chief Minister addressed the overall stability and growth of Tripura, stating, “Tripura is now a peaceful state, and it’s vital to communicate this to the public. Insurgency is a relic of the past; former cadres from groups like NLFT and ATTF have surrendered, leading to improved law and order.” He criticized the previous administrations for neglecting tourism development, contrasting their record with current initiatives under Prime Minister Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
Dr. Saha underscored the importance of tourism in driving inclusive growth and empowering women. “Tripura boasts unique attractions such as Unakoti and Ujjayanta Palace. We are implementing plans to introduce tourism police to ensure the safety and security of visitors at popular destinations,” he remarked. “The people desire peace and stability, and we are committed to delivering that.”
With these initiatives, the Tripura government aims to lay a robust foundation for both health and tourism sectors, fostering a more sustainable and prosperous future for the state.
