Sikkim Governor Launches Transformative Health Camp Celebrating 50 Years of Empowered Statehood
Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur launched the Annual Health Camp from the Raj Bhavan on May 5, marking a significant milestone as the event coincides with the 50th anniversary of Sikkim’s statehood. This year’s camp is particularly meaningful, reflecting the state’s progress since becoming the 22nd state in India on May 16, 1975.
Medical professionals from various hospitals, including STNM Hospital, Central Referral Hospital (CRH) Manipal, and Neotia Siliguri, gathered early at Raj Bhavan before departing for PTC Yangang, where the health camp will take place. Organized under the Raj Bhavan’s initiative, the camp exemplifies its commitment to providing free medical services to residents, particularly in remote areas with limited access to healthcare.
During the flag-off event, Governor Mathur emphasized the importance of health as a pivotal focus for the state. He reiterated that the Annual Health Camp aims not only to enhance public health but also to support individuals who face challenges in accessing medical care. “This camp is a small but sincere step in supporting the health needs of our people. For fifty years, Sikkim has advanced in many areas—healthcare being one of the most significant,” said Mathur. “Our journey as a state began with a dream of democracy, freedom, and development. Today, we witness that dream becoming a reality.”
Anticipated to benefit numerous residents in Yangang and surrounding areas, this year’s camp boasts a team of seasoned doctors and healthcare professionals offering a range of services. Participants can expect general check-ups, specialist consultations, basic health screenings, and essential medications—all provided at no cost. Additionally, the medical team will deliver informational sessions on preventive healthcare and the importance of healthy living.
As Sikkim celebrates five decades as part of India, the Annual Health Camp serves as a reminder of the state’s notable achievements in education, infrastructure, and public health. The commitment of Sikkim’s residents to foster unity and cooperation has been instrumental in establishing a peaceful and progressive society.
This year’s health initiative not only aims to address immediate health concerns but also reinforces a broader vision for the future. By facilitating access to healthcare, the Raj Bhavan continues to prioritize the well-being of its citizens, ensuring that vital medical resources reach those who need them most. The camp stands as a testament to the ongoing journey of Sikkim, one that moves toward comprehensive development in healthcare and beyond.
As the state commemorates its 50th anniversary, the Annual Health Camp is a poignant reminder of the progress made and the work that lies ahead in promoting health and wellness for all.
