Guwahati, May 4: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reiterated the Assam government’s commitment to actualizing the investment promises made during the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit. Addressing a high-profile Japanese delegation visiting the state, Sarma emphasized that this initiative is more than just a summit; it is an ongoing mission to transform commitments into tangible outcomes.
During a visit to the Tata Semiconductor ATMP (Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging) facility in Jagiroad, Sarma remarked, “Witness the presence of delegations from Japan and industry giants like Adani coming to Assam. This underscores that we are not merely organizing Advantage Assam 2.0; we are diligently working to bring every pledge made during the summit to fruition.”
The delegation, comprising 52 members and led by Nukaga Fukushiro, the Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives, signifies a significant step towards enhancing bilateral relations. Sarma noted that Fukushiro’s presence follows a personal invitation extended during his Tokyo visit in January, highlighting the thoughtful and decisive nature of Japanese leadership. “Once they make a commitment, they honor it. This visit exemplifies that dedication,” Sarma stated.
The delegation’s three-day tour marks one of the most significant foreign engagements in Assam in recent years, aimed at bolstering collaboration in technology, skill development, and cultural exchange. Earlier, the group toured the Japan-assisted Skill Training Centre in Amingaon, which is being developed in partnership with ASEAN-One Co. Upon completion, this center is projected to benefit up to 50,000 youth in Assam, equipping them with essential skills for global employment, especially in Japan. Additionally, it will host a Japanese Language Testing facility, part of a memorandum of understanding signed during the summit, designed to enhance the employability of local youth.
“This moment is historic for Assam’s development trajectory,” Sarma observed. “It signifies a growing alliance between Japan and Assam, aligning with our vision of a skilled, globally connected, and prosperous state.”
Assam Tourism Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, who facilitated the Japanese delegation’s visit to the Skill Training Centre, expressed pride in showcasing the state’s strengths. “We are excited to highlight Assam’s tourism, culture, and youth empowerment potential. The Japanese Language & Testing Centre will create global opportunities for our youth and strengthen the Assam-Japan bond,” Dass noted.
The visit also included a tour of IIT Guwahati, where the Japanese team explored avenues for potential collaborations in technology and education, further solidifying the ties between Assam and Japan.
As Assam positions itself as a hub for global economic engagement, the emphasis on skill development and international partnerships signals a promising future for the state’s youth, paving the way for initiatives that could transform Assam into a focal point of opportunity and collaboration in Southeast Asia.
