Amul customers are facing a price increase as the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has announced a hike in milk prices by Rs 2 per litre, effective May 1, 2025. This decision affects all variants of Amul milk sold nationwide. The GCMMF, which manages the Amul brand, cited rising production costs as the primary reason for this adjustment, noting that the increase amounts to a modest increase of 3-4% in the maximum retail price (MRP), significantly lower than the current rate of food inflation.
In an official statement from the Anand-based federation, it was highlighted that the last price hike for fresh pouch milk occurred in June 2024. The new prices reveal that a 500ml pouch of Amul Gold will be retailed for Rs 34, while a 1-litre pouch will be priced at Rs 67 in Gujarat. Additionally, prices for other variants have been set: a 500ml pouch of Amul Shakti will now cost Rs 31, and cow milk will be available for Rs 29 per 500ml. The price for a 1-litre pouch of buffalo milk is now Rs 73, and Amul Taaza will retail at Rs 55 for the same size.
The GCMMF explained the necessity for this increase, stating, “This price hike is being done due to an increase in input costs of production for our 36 lakh milk producers.” They further emphasized that member unions have also incrementally adjusted farmers’ prices accordingly over the past year.
