Dilip Ghosh’s Surprise Appearance at Digha Temple Opening: A Milestone for Hindu Awakening, Says CM
Senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh made headlines on Wednesday evening when he unexpectedly joined the inauguration of the Jagannath Dham temple in Digha, a project closely associated with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Accompanied by his newly wed wife, Rinku Majumdar, Ghosh also took the opportunity to meet Banerjee during the event, marking a surprising appearance for many, including some BJP factions.
While the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government had extended invitations to state BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, both opted to forego the event. At the temple, Ghosh was greeted warmly by TMC minister Aroop Biswas, who he referred to as a friend.
During his interaction with the Chief Minister, Ghosh noted a “Hindu awakening” reflected in her recent initiatives, particularly on auspicious occasions like Akshaya Tritiya, which he believes foster a resurgence in Hindu devotion. “Puri’s Jagannath has traveled 350 kilometers to Bengal, and we are honored to witness this occasion. It’s encouraging to see this spiritual revival. The chief minister has done a commendable job in facilitating it,” he stated.
When discussing his relationship with Aroop Biswas, Ghosh emphasized, “No one can oppose God, and no one has a conflict with God. This is a government program, and I was invited to attend.” He expressed openness to further dialogue with the Chief Minister should the opportunity arise. Ghosh and his wife participated in prayers at the temple, reminding reporters of the importance of setting aside differences in a sacred space.
In a Facebook update, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh remarked on the meeting between Ghosh and Banerjee, mentioning the impressive architecture of the newly inaugurated temple. He noted that Ghosh’s wife had also paid homage to him during their temple visit.
Interestingly, Ghosh chose not to attend a program organized by Adhikari aimed at countering the temple’s inauguration. He explained, “Nobody invited me there. I was invited to Digha, and that’s where I went.”
The event has stirred some controversy within the BJP. MP Saumitra Khan criticized Ghosh’s attendance, suggesting it was emblematic of a departure from party ideals. “You are an example of how one renouncer becomes a hedonist. You’ve sidelined leaders like Babul Supriyo and Mukul Roy—now you follow their path. You are the shame of Bengal’s BJP,” Khan asserted.
As Ghosh’s actions continue to reverberate within party circles, the Digha inauguration stands as a pivotal moment for party dynamics and political engagement in the region.
