In a groundbreaking initiative to empower the next generation of tribal youth, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs announced a collaboration with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to establish “Space Labs” in 75 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) across 19 states. This project, which includes notable participation from Northeast states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Tripura, and Assam, received a substantial funding of Rs 12 crore under BPCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.
The initiative aims to bridge educational gaps and enhance opportunities for over 50,000 tribal students, specifically focusing on space science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). With an emphasis on making quality education accessible, this project aligns seamlessly with the objectives outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which seeks to create an inclusive educational landscape for Scheduled Tribe students.
The Space Labs will benefit from technical guidance provided by ISRO-recognised space tutor agencies. Equipped with advanced models of launch vehicles, telescopes, and Cansat working kits, these labs will serve as interactive platforms for hands-on learning. Furthermore, teaching materials will be closely aligned with India’s ambitious space missions, fostering a sense of national pride and ownership in students.
